PHOENIX — The Arizona Game and Fish Department is seeking information regarding an off-season shooting of a javelina on Tucson’s west side.
A $1,500 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest, according to a press release on Wednesday.
The juvenile javelina was found wounded by an arrow near Tucson Mountain Park on Sunday evening, with the animal having to be euthanized due to the severity of the injury, according to the release.
“This was the act of a criminal, a person without regard for one of the state’s most precious resources, its wildlife,” Regional Supervisor of Game and Fish in Tucson Raul Vega said in the release.
“This javelina suffered terribly after someone attempted to take it out of season, possibly by shooting an arrow within a quarter mile of a structure.”
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the AZGFD’s Operation Game Thief hotline at 800-352-0700.
