A Coralville man who was arrested in November 2019 after allegedly sexually abusing a minor for over a year has been unanimously convicted of over two dozen charges against him.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the jury deliberated about five hours before convicting 38—year-old Robin Castillo Fuentes on 14 counts of lascivious conduct with a minor, 14 charges of indecent contact with a child, one count of child endangerment and one count of assault.

KCJJ reported earlier that Castillo Fuentes was in a position of authority over the child and a member of the household at the time of the alleged incidents, which occurred between July 2018 and October 2019. The girl’s brother reportedly witnessed one incident, and the girl’s mother also testified.

Police say Castillo Fuentes admitted to inappropriately touching and kissing the girl, but during trial recanted his statement, saying he lied when they questioned him.

The newspaper reports that 6th Judicial District Judge Justin Lightfoot ordered the man to participate in a psychosexual interview, which will be evaluated by the Department of Correctional Services as part of the conviction report.

Castillo Fuentes is set to be sentenced November 19th in Johnson County District Court. He faces up to 44 years in prison and will have to comply with sex offender registry requirements.
