When the Miami Hurricanes host FCS team Central Connecticut State on Saturday, they will most likely be without star quarterback D'Eriq King.

The 'Canes QB injured his right shoulder in last week's 38-17 loss to Michigan State at Hard Rock Stadium. As of Wednesday, head coach Manny Diaz said King's status is doubtful for this weekend, and he did not say how much time he could miss.

The question of who will replace King on Saturday is yet to be determined. Diaz said both Tyler Van Dyke, a redshirt freshman who threw two passes in four games last season, and true freshman Jake Garcia have been getting reps with the first team in practice this week. Both will likely see time on Saturday.

The Hurricanes (1-2) and Blue Devils (1-2) have never faced off in football. CCSU, of the Northeast Conference, lost their game last week to Southeastern Louisiana by a score of 56-10. Miami has not played an FCS team since 2019, when the 'Canes blanked Bethune-Cookman 63-0 for Manny Diaz's first win as head coach.
