Houston Opens The American Play at Home This Weekend

HOUSTON – Following one of the best non-conference starts in school history, the University of Houston Volleyball program returns to action when it opens American Athletic Conference play inside the Fertitta Center this weekend.
 
The Cougars will play host to Tulsa at 7 p.m., Friday, and meet Wichita State at 1 p.m., Sunday.
 
Under Head Coach David Rehr, Houston enters this weekend's match with a 10-2 overall record in non-conference play. That ties as the seventh-best start in program history after 12 matches.
 
Sophomore libero Kate Georgiades leads the Cougars and The American with 4.91 digs per set and was recently named to the league's weekly Honor Roll after leading the Cougars with 6.20 digs per set in three matches at the Bama Bash last weekend.
 
Sophomore setter Annie Cooke is tops among the Cougars and ranks second in the league with 10.02 assists per set. The Woodlands, Texas, native has dished out 50+ assists in three matches this season and enjoyed her first double-double of the season with 16 assists and 11 digs in the win over Tennessee Tech during the Bama Bash finale on Saturday.
 
Junior outside hitter Abbie Jackson ranks fourth in the league with 3.55 kills per set. The Gig Harbor, Wash., native has blasted double-digit kills in every match this season and in each of her last 13 dating back to last season.
 
PROMOTIONS
Friday vs. Tulsa – The Cougars will celebrate the 75th anniversary of intercollegiate athletics at the University.
 
In addition, everyone wearing red to the game will receive a discounted ticket at the Fertitta Center Box Office.
 
Sunday vs. Wichita State – Fans will enjoy the Dads & Daughters ticket package, which includes two tickets for only $10 with a concession voucher. Following the match, the Cougars will be available to sign autographs.

TULANE vs. WICHITA STATE
As Tulane University and the city of New Orleans continues to recover from the effects of Hurricane Ida, the Cougars welcome the Green Wave to the Fertitta Center as they meet Wichita State at 2 p.m., Friday, prior to Houston's match against Tulsa.
 
UP NEXT
Following this weekend's matches, the Cougars hit the road for four straight American Athletic Conference road contests.
 
The road swing begins at 6 p.m., Sept. 29, against Tulane in New Orleans and continues at Noon (CDT), Oct. 3, against Temple in Philadelphia.
 
From there, the Cougars head to Florida to face UCF (Oct. 8) and South Florida (Oct. 10).
