MassOpera to Kick off 2021-22 With 18 ‘Traviata’ Performances

By David Salazar

Boston-based MassOpera is set to kick off its 2021-22 season with Verdi’s “La Traviata” on Oct. 17-24, 2021.

The opera will be presented at the Historic Eustis Estate in collaboration with Historic New England. Katy Early will direct with Dan Ryan conducting the site-specific production with audience members led through four locations throughout the Estate.

In a press statement, Early noted that her intention was for the audience to “feel like they’re guests at the party scenes and ‘flies on the walls’ of the moments between this couple, Violetta and Alfredo, as they grapple with how to be together through gorgeous singing.”

The opera will star Alisa Cassola, Sarah Joyce Cooper, Carina DiGianfilippo, Mary Letellier, Shaina Martinez, and Tamara Ryan sharing the role of Violetta. David Bozon, Omar Najmi, and Carl Rosenthal will interpret Alfredo while Emily Geller and Ron Williams will both be Giorgio.

In sum there will be 18 performances (three per day) with 25 audience members allowed per show.
