Keiser football starts anew after 17-game regular season winning streak snapped

WEST PALM BEACH — The Keiser Seahawks will look to start their win streak anew on Saturday after a lopsided loss to No. 1  Lindsey Wilson last time out.

The 34-2 loss snapped Keiser's streak of 17 straight regular season victories dating back to November 2018.

Coming off of a bye week, the Seahawks (1-1) aren’t shying away from self-reflection as they look to shore up their weaknesses and get back in the win column this Saturday at home against Point University (0-3).

“I think any time you go through what we did in that game — we didn’t play our best at all, we didn’t give ourselves a chance — it’s very humbling, I think, for everybody,” Keiser head coach Doug Socha said.

“In big games, our best players have to play well, and they didn’t. But I think that their mindset is right. They’re back to work and they’re trying to be the best that they can be. And they’re trying to prevent that from ever happening again.”

The Keiser Seahawks defeated Cumberland 45-6 in Saturday's season opener behind an effort that saw fresh talent connect with veteran presences throughout the Keiser roster.

Heading into the week off, Socha says that the team focused on themselves, both on improving what they did poorly in the matchup against Lindsey Wilson and on polishing what they have done well in the early-going of the 2021 season.

“We told our team, ‘We’re going to live in the truth, and what we see on film is what we are,’ and there’s a lot to work on.”

Quarterbacks Jack Strouse and Shae Spencer both saw playing time against the NAIA’s top team while Johnathan Mosely is returning from an injury suffered against Cumberland.

While Strouse remains the team’s starter, Socha is looking for improvements from him at the helm of an offense that struggled to find a rhythm last game.

“I think, as a position group, the wide receivers have a lot to prove,” Socha said. “They’ve been very inconsistent, and they’ve been challenged on a daily basis to be better and be their best. I think those guys have a lot to prove, and I’d like to see that group collectively come out and have a great day.”

Still, Keiser should enter Saturday’s home matchup as comfortable favorites as they look to get back on track against a team that has allowed an average of 56 points per game, albeit against strong competition.

The Keiser Seahawks defeated Cumberland 45-6 in Saturday's season opener behind an effort that saw fresh talent connect with veteran presences throughout the Keiser roster.

Even so, Socha noted a fast-paced defense and a double-quarterback situation are things he expects to see from the Georgia-based visitors, things the Seahawks are preparing for accordingly.

“We want to continue to try to put our best product on the field and we’re going to have an opportunity this Saturday at home, so we’re really excited about that,” Socha said.
