Joseph Ralph Soccio Jr. of West Caldwell passed away from sudden health complications at home on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021, one day after his 57th birthday.
Born in Passaic on Sept. 7, 1964, Joseph was the son of Gloria K. Markowitz (Soccio) and the late Joseph R. Soccio Sr.
Joe was raised in Clifton with his sister, Jennifer, and attended Clifton High School before attending Rutgers University.
Following college, Joe was an employee with H&R Block and then became a certified financial planner, mostly self-employed.
Joe fathered two children, Jennie and Michael Soccio, with his former spouse, Mary DeBonis, and lived in the Caldwells. He was involved with coaching his children’s many sports teams and volunteered with the Music and More school program. Joe was an avid baseball fan, especially of the New York Mets. He also loved rock and rap music, deli sandwiches and comedian Chris Farley.
Surviving are his children, Jennie Catherine Soccio and Michael Lawrence Soccio; his mother, Gloria Markowitz, and stepfather, David Markowitz; and sister, Jennifer Coppola, and nephew, Anthony Coppola. His son Michael is a sophomore at New York University studying economics and political science, and Jennie graduated with a degree in legal studies from Ithaca College and is employed by AmeriCorps VISTA.
A celebration of Joe’s life was held on Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Ave., Roseland, followed by services at the First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell and then an outdoor gathering on the lawn.
In lieu of flowers, please consider helping support his children due to the unexpected loss by privately donating or through a fundraiser that has been established at GoFundMe, www.gofundme.com.
