City of Jackson to kick off first soul-filled weekend
The city of Jackson has kicked off its first Soul-Filled weekend, with events that emphasize the mind, body, and soul.
After a steady season due to the pandemic, communications manager Yolanda-Clay Moore said the weekend is expected to bring in millions of dollars.
"We've been suffering as far as the pandemic goes and this is an opportunity to just kick off this fall season, football season everybody is excited about football season and what better way than a doubleheader, a SWAC doubleheader," said Clay-Moore, Visit Jackson communications manager.
On Saturday the Jackson State Tigers took on the Delta State University for the WC Forden Classic. The next day, Mississippi Valley State University will play against Southern University at the Delta Bayou Classic.
It doesn't stop there. The weekend will also consist of various social events for attendees to participate in. This also contributes to the city's economic gain.
"We don't expect everyone to attend every event, but what we're doing is giving the people options so that Jackson becomes a destination for fun not just coming to the Capital City for work," said Allan Cole, Dharma Professional Services LLC executive producer.
Thursday, the soul-filled weekend will host Tech JXN, a three-day conference and career fair that showcases the pillars of T.E.C.H; technology, education, creativity and health care.
