Avalanche extends Logan O’Connor, former DU Pioneers standout, to three-year contract

The Avalanche announced Wednesday night it has agreed to a three-year extension with forward Logan O’Connor, the former University of Denver standout. Per a league source, the deal is worth $3.15 million ($1.05 million annual cap hit).

O’Connor, 25, is beginning the final year of a two-year, $1.45 million extension ($725,000 cap hit) he signed on Sept. 18, 2020. His latest extension begins for the 2022-23 season.

“O.C.” was signed to a two-year entry-level contract as an undrafted free agent on July 23, 2018, after his junior year at DU. He was named the Pioneers’ captain for 2018-19 but chose to turn pro and forgo his senior year.

In his fourth season as a pro, O’Connor is expected to make the Avs’ opening-night lineup as the right winger on the third or fourth line.

“Logan is a high-energy player who works hard, competes and brings grit and depth to our lineup,” Avalanche GM Joe Sakic said in a statement. “He is a strong skater and penalty killer and has continued to improve his game every year as a professional.”
