A meteorologist for more than three decades, Karl Bohnak announced he was  fired from a news station in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, WLUC TV6, after refusing a COVID-19 vaccine.

“It is with a heavy heart, I announce after over 33 years, I am no longer employed at TV6,” Bohnak wrote in a Facebook post last week.

Bohnak wrote that the parent company of TV6, Gray Television, has mandated COVID-19 vaccines for anyone who enters the building.

“Since I chose not to take one of the shots, I was fired,” Bohnak wrote.

TV6 and Karl Bohnak could not be reached immediately for comment Monday.

The Washington Post reported that a spokesperson for Gray Television supplied the company’s mandatory vaccination policy but declined to comment.

In his Facebook post, Bohnak said that his refusal of the shot was his right.

“Many of you have taken one of these injections, and that is absolutely your right.  It is also my right to choose the medical options I feel are right for me.  I have authority over my body.”
