The Los Angeles Lakers made a lot of noise when they announced the signing of former MVP Russell Westbrook. Team head coach Frank Vogel recently opened up on what he thinks about the 32-year-old guard. The Lakers' shot-caller believes that Russ is currently in a “desperate” state.

Speaking on Spectrum SportsNet's LakeShow podcast, Vogel had nothing but praise for Westbrook. Vogel also shed some light on Russ' current mindset now that he's linked up with LeBron James and the rest of the team in LA:

“You want as much firepower as you can get to battle what we’re about to battle and when you get in these playoff wars, you need firepower. This guy is the ultimate competitor, he’s desperate, very much wants to be in that position to win a championship,” Vogel said, via Ryan Ward of Lakers Nation. “That’s the one thing he’s not accomplished in his career and he’s in position to do that.”

Fair point from Vogel. It's absolutely true that Russell Westbrook has achieved so many accolades throughout his decorated career. It's also a fact, however, that the one thing missing from Russ' Hall of Fame résumé is an NBA title.

This is exactly what Westbrook hopes to achieve with the Lakers. As Vogel described above, the nine-time All-Star will play a key role for the team this coming season, when the Lake Show tries to bring the title back to L.A.
