If you're a fan of "The Crown" on Netflix, you know of Queen Elizabeth's sister, Princess Margaret. She toured the United States for three weeks in 1965 with her husband, the Earl of Snowdon. An episode in Season 3 highlights the journey.

One stop on the agenda was a four day visit to Tucson in November. The host was Lewis W. Douglas, former Ambassador to the Court of St. James under Pres. Harry S. Truman. (Douglas was born in Bisbee, the son of an executive with Phelps Dodge Mining Co.) During his tenure as ambassador in London, Douglas' daughter became friends with Princess Margaret.

The Royal couple's time in Tucson was spent mostly at the Douglas home in Tucson and ranch in Sonoita. There was also a reception at the Arizona Inn.
