St. Mary Star of the Sea 'affordable' housing?

Several months ago, I purchased a completely remodeled condo for rental purposes in New London. The purchase price for this nice two bedroom, 1 and 1/2 bath unit was $50,000.

Therefore, I was rather surprised, to say the least, when I read in your paper that the taxpayers of Connecticut had subsidized the construction of 20 small apartment units at a cost of $7 million, "Former New London Catholic school reborn as affordable housing," (Sept. 11). That is a per unit cost of $350,000, which is seven times the cost of what I paid for my condo and is equal to the cost of a beautiful 2,000-square-foot home in our area.

I think The Day has an obligation to investigate this use of taxpayers’ money.
