EUGENE, Ore. – Lane County expects to begin mass clinics for COVID-19 booster shots on September 29.
Public Health Spokesperson Jason Davis says after the FDA makes a decision on boosters, the Western States Coalition and Oregon Health Authority will announce their own plans, which is likely to happen Tuesday, September 28.
“We are looking at a very flexible plan where we could vaccinate 16,000 people per week,” said Davis, adding that the Lane Events Center will be one location where shots are given.
Three more locations will be announced as plans are finalized. Clinics will be operated Tuesdays through Saturdays.
A question remains as to the timeframe of the third booster shot and whether it would be given six months or eight months after the first two doses.
“If it’s eight months, we’re looking at a population of about 4,000 people who are 65 plus," Davis said. "If we do the six months, it will be closer to 25,000, so big difference there.".
Earlier this month, an FDA panel voted down the idea of widespread Pfizer booster shots, but approved them for elderly recipients and people at increased risk of getting coronavirus.
