Reading Royals trade for veteran defenseman Patrick McNally

The Royals acquire their third defensemen in the last two days.

The Reading Royals acquired defenseman Patrick McNally from the Wheeling Nailers for future considerations, the team announced Wednesday.

McNally was selected by Vancouver in the fourth round of the 2010 NHL draft and has played for eight professional teams. At 29, he is the oldest player on Reading’s roster.

McNally most recently took the ice for Orlando and Wheeling during the 2020-21 ECHL season. He recorded 37 points in 71 games.

McNally played for the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda from 2015-17, registering 18 points in 94 contests. He then spent parts of the next three seasons playing for four teams in Europe.

Collegiately, McNally played for Harvard from 2011-15. During his senior season, he recorded 21 points in 21 games with the Crimson.
