Conway man arrested after SWAT team incident, large number of guns seized

From Staff Reports

CONWAY — One man is in custody after SWAT teams responded to an incident in the borough Tuesday afternoon.

Police were called to the 13th Street home of David Michael Dofner, 57, after receiving reports of him wearing two pistols in his waistband and waving the weapons at passing drivers.

When officers reported to the scene, Dofner returned inside and refused to exit the building. SWAT teams were then called to the scene, where they negotiated for Dofner to exit his home before using pepper balls to subdue him.

Inside Dofner's home, officers found over 30 guns, including hunting rifles, semiautomatic rifles, handguns and shotguns. In addition to the weapons, officers found more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition in the home. Police are investigating if all of the guns are legally owned.

Dofner has been charged with making terroristic threats and reckless endangerment.
