Cyclovia Remix commemorates ten years of Open Streets* in Tucson. From October 2021 through March 2022, explore different routes from Cyclovia’s past and celebrate the people and places that have brought this event to life for a decade (that means you)!

In response to community input, this remix of the classic Cyclovia is customizable, diversified and socially-distanced. As we return to some of our favorite local restaurants, shops and sites, it’s a chance to reconnect with the people and places we’ve been missing.

*What are open streets? Cyclovia Tucson is a part of the international Open Streets movement, reclaiming public space for people by closing streets to cars for one day. Open Streets programs make the possible—vibrant streets for all, connecting people to places and each other—visible in over 100 cities in North America alone. In the ongoing movement for people-friendly, Open Streets, Cyclovia is a verb.

At Your Own Pace

The beauty of choosing your own adventure is having the best parts of Cyclovia on your schedule and at your own pace. Each month, the Cyclovia Remixed website will showcase local business spotlights, hidden prizes, route suggestions, photos and more from other participating Tucsonans. Linked in the route descriptions below, interactive maps will guide your exploration in real-time and highlight potential stops. Look for the Cyclovia posters in collaborating businesses as you go!

Along with LSA’s pop-up shops, group rides and mobile bike repairs, our live Community Calendar will feature events from other local groups and businesses held along the route. Six months of family-friendly opportunities to reconnect with friends and neighbors while getting outdoors in some of Tucson’s best weather.

If you or your organization have a scheduled event or idea for an informal activity, get in touch at cyclovia@livingstreetsalliance.org Examples could include anything from donation drives to park yoga to dog play dates to taco tours, don’t be shy.

October: ‘Welcome to La Doce’

We’re returning to the lively South 12th Avenue--from Julian Wash Archeological Park on the The Loop (near West 39th Street) to Mission Manor Park just south of Drexel Road. This route is known for its plethora of locally-owned small businesses, featuring some of Tucson’s best Mexican food. Plus, it connects dozens of schools, community centers, places of worship, parks and neighborhoods.

November: ‘Tour de 4th’
Making use of the 4th Avenue and Fontana Bike Boulevards this route links Tucson neighborhoods with the University of Arizona and the 6th Ave Business district, passing Mansfield and Catalina Parks along the way.  Its close proximity to the streetcar makes this route highly accessible via public transportation!

December: ‘Hello Midtown’

This route takes a low-stress path along Blacklidge Drive between the Keeling Neighborhood (Near Glenn and 1st Ave), past La Madera Park and ending at Brandi Fenton Memorial Park via Dodge Avenue northbound.

January: ‘Green at the Core”

Zig-zagging through numerous midtown highlights, this route takes participants from the business hub near Bookman’s (Speedway & Howard), past a number of local organizations and on to the gorgeous Tucson Botanical Gardens. 3rd Street, Richey Blvd, Dodge Blvd and Seneca Street provide an exciting route.

February: ‘Bungalow Roll’

Beginning at the unique Lost Barrio shopping district, February’s route makes use of the Highland, 9th Street and 3rd Street Bike Boulevards to take you up to Tucson’s beloved Himmel Park. Adventurous cyclists can take a spin on the Barrio BMX Trails.

March: ‘Poet’s Stroll’

Beginning near the LSA headquarters on 6th St. & 6th Ave, this route takes you up the 4th Avenue Bike Boulevard and through vibrant Tucson neighborhoods north of the UA Campus, ending at our title sponsor, Banner University Medical Center. Named for its proximity to the UA Poetry Center, this route last inspired participants’ creativity in Spring of 2019.
