Victoria Beckham didn’t have to look far to find inspiration for the latest runway collection for her eponymous brand, stealing a few style cues from her husband, David Beckham.
The fashion designer spoke to British Vogue about the menswear silhouettes in her new Spring/Summer 2022 ready-to-wear collection, crediting the former soccer star’s personal style as the source material for many of the looks. “The oversized chambray shirts feel quite David, with a loose-fitting pant and a beautiful belt. You wanna be that person,” Beckham explained. “David always dresses. He always makes an effort. When we’re on holiday in Europe, he has a very pulled-together look, and I want to wear those pieces as well. It’s a shared suitcase.” That might also explain the collection’s very slouchy silhouettes given that the petite 5’4” former Spice Girl has been trying to wear her 5’11” professional athlete husband’s apparel on vacation.
Beckham also referenced her longtime partner in the show notes for the collection, writing, “A masculine silhouette is part of our DNA. There was quite an eclectic mix of well-dressed men that came to mind when I was thinking about this season...Leo in linen, Ray Liotta in Goodfellas—the string vest and unbuttoned shirt—then of course Mr. Beckham himself.” The soccer player has also lately been trying his hand at the cosmetics business, touching up his wife’s makeup on the set of a Victoria Beckham Beauty photoshoot and shooting and directing an ad for the brand’s matte bronzing brick.
This summer, the couple also celebrated what a great team they make at their 22nd wedding anniversary. David and Victoria were married on July 4, 1999 at the Irish Luttrellstown Castle with their then-four-month-old son, Brooklyn, acting as ring bearer. They have since gone on to have three more children together, 18-year-old Romeo, 16-year-old Cruz, and 10-year-old Harper.
