Succession‘s highly anticipated third season is almost here, but don’t expect to find any hints about what’s to come in the opening credits. The HBO drama’s main title credits feature what are meant to be flashback clips of the Roy family’s early years, but according to creator Jesse Armstrong, these moments have no deeper meaning.

“We look carefully at the titles, we’re not in the habit of trying to really ferret away little clues, but it’s nice when things join up in the show,” Armstrong said at the show’s Television Critics Association panel today. “We all have quite a detailed knowledge of this business in this world, and sometimes fragments fit together for people. But we’re not a super Easter Egg’y operation. That’s a cool thing some people do. It’s not especially what we do.”

In the past, the opening credits have caused some fans to theorize that each season centers on a different Roy sibling — the Season 1 title credits seemingly focus more on a young Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong), while the Season 2 credits focus more on young Shiv Roy (Sarah Snook). But Armstrong disputed this idea, too, saying the process of creating the show is “organic and about following this family.”

Succession Season 3 will pick up right after Kendall’s shocking revelation in the Season 2 finale, as he and his father Logan (Brian Cox) scramble to secure familial, political, and financial alliances. As a bitter corporate battle looms, the Roy family are poised for an all-out civil war.

The series also stars Kieran Culkin, Alan Ruck, Matthew Macfadyen, Nicholas Braun, Hiam Abbass, and J. Smith Cameron. Along with the returning cast, Season 3 will feature notable additions like Adrien Brody, Alexander Skarsgård, and Sanaa Lathan.

Succession is helmed by Armstrong, who serves as creator/ showrunner/ executive producer. Adam McKay, Frank Rich, Kevin Messick, Jane Tranter, Mark Mylod, Tony Roche, Scott Ferguson, Jon Brown, and Will Ferrell also executive produce the series.
