CHESHIRE, Ore. - A 34-year-old motorcyclists from Springfield died Tuesday when he struck a Polaris ATV as it crossed Highway 36 between Cheshire and Highway 99.

Oregon State Police responded to the scene at 4:27 p.m.

The preliminary investigation found the ATV driven by Robert Nelson, 88, of Junction City was crossing Hwy 36 when it was hit by a Honda motorcycle driven by Jesse Hayworth of Springfield.

Hayworth died at the scene, police said.

Medics took Nelson and his passenger, 87-year-old Marjorie Nelson, to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend. The extent of their injuries is not known.

The crash response closed the highway for 3 hours.

State police were assisted at the scene by Junction City Police Department, Junction City Fire and ODOT.
