2021 Ryder Cup Preview: What to Expect from Jon Rahm

The Ryder Cup competition between Europe and the United States begins this week at Whistling Straits Golf Course in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The top 12 players from each side will meet with the winner taking home one of the most coveted trophies in golf.
As the teams prepare for competition, we will be doing the same by previewing the players in this year’s event. Today, we look at Team Europe’s Jon Rahm.

Ryder Cup experience – Rahm will be making his second Ryder Cup appearance this week. In 2018, he went 1-2-0 overall. He was 0-2-0 in four-ball, playing once with Justin Rose and once with Ian Poulter. However, Rahm won his Sunday singles match, beating Tiger Woods 2&1.
Worldwide experience – Rahm has won six times on the PGA Tour and six times on the European Tour, all since 2017. His most recent win was also his first major championship title, when Rahm won the U.S. Open in June of this year. He nearly won the FedEx Cup this season and easily could have been the PGA Tour Player of the Year.
What to expect – Let’s be honest, Rahm will be the best player on the property this week at Whistling Straits. If the Europeans are to win, Rahm will need to play a big part in that. And he can.

Finding the right partner for Rahm will be key for European captain Padraig Harrington. If Rahm can mesh with someone in the first four sessions, it could be dangerous for the Americans. And on Sunday in the singles matches, Rahm will be favored, no matter who he faces.
The American side does not want to see Rahm get on a roll this week. If he does, he could provide some really long coat tails for his teammates to ride on as they try to pull the upset. The guess here is that Rahm does his part to help the European side. But he will need some help for the Euros to retain the cup.
