Woman accused of stabbing employee outside Morton Hospital arrested, Taunton police say
Taunton police said a woman has been arrested in connection with "an unprovoked attack" outside of Morton Hospital Tuesday afternoon. Victoria Disharoon, 28, of Taunton, was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.Disharoon was arrested in Raynham at approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday. Police seized a small pocket knife blade, without a handle, that is believed to have been used in the attack. The employee, a 44-year-old Taunton woman, was outside the hospital on a break at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday on the North Pleasant Street side of the hospital when a woman walked up behind her, pulled her ponytail and stabbed her several times, police said.The victim initially though the assailant had punched her, but a co-worker determined the woman had actually been stabbed multiple times in her shoulders and neck, police said. The victim was treated at the hospital and released.She told police the assault was completely random and unprovoked. She was able to take a picture of the attacker as she walked away. Taunton police released the photo and received multiple tips about the woman's identity from the public and from an outside police agency. "Fortunately, the victim sustained only minor injuries, received outpatient treatment at Morton's ER including stitches, and chose to finish their shift while also electing to work (Tuesday)," the hospital said in a statement.Disharoon's sister told NewsCenter 5's John Atwater Wednesday night that she attributes the attack to mental illness.Disharoon is expected to be arraigned Thursday in Taunton District Court.
