The New York Yankees entered a must-sweep series with the Texas Rangers on the exact opposite of a heater, having been conked in the head by a coconut twice against Cleveland (11-3 and 11-1 in back-to-back embarrassments).

Somehow, the Bombers picked themselves up and won the first two games, edging out the Rangers by a score of 4-3 in the opener and blowing their doors off with the long ball a little bit in a 7-1 follow-up (that featured the return of Luis Severino!), even picking up a game on the Toronto Blue Jays in the process.

Perhaps because the Rays stole their signs? Perhaps! Great team you’ve got down there in Tampa.

With the series finale in sight, the Yanks have thus far done what they’ve had to do to continue to control their own destiny; with three games remaining with the Sox and Jays, they’re within three games of both teams (two games back of Boston, a half-game behind Toronto).

They still very much have to win Wednesday night to feel good about their chances, though. Can this team — gasp — really complete a sweep?

Yankees vs Rangers Odds Today

There isn’t much of an advantage to be gained betting on the Yankees today, according to our friends at WynnBET; they’re monster favorites. New York is -300 on the moneyline (bet $300 to win $100), while the Rangers are +240 (bet $100 to win $240).

On the run line, New York is +110 to cover a -2.5 spread (if they win by three runs or more, you win $110 for every $100 you bet); Texas is -130 to keep the game within two runs or fewer. The over/under is 8.5, with the over checking in at -125 and the under at +104.

Yankees Pitcher Today

The Yankees will send Corey Kluber (5-3, 3.68) to the mound in a prime example of letting past performance color your future bets. His last start against Texas — which feels like ages ago — was a no-hitter. Largely meaningless now? Yes; he missed several months in between.

On the flip side, though, his most recent outing against Cleveland was the first one in a while where it appeared he shook the rust off in six shutout innings. So … do you feel lucky?

He’ll be opposed by hard-throwing lefty Taylor Hearn (6-5, 4.52).

Yankees Starting Lineup

Voit back, Rizzo gone, round and round we go! Come on, now.

Yankees vs Rangers Prediction Today

It’s never easy. It won’t be easy. We are, however, predicting a similar game to the first one. New York jumps out to a three-run cushion in the third, then never hits again. Kluber loses command in the fourth, and the lead is cut to 3-2. Eventually, the game is tied up, but … the Bombers edge ahead for good in the seventh.

4-3, Yankees win.
