Caleb Plant proves he did connect on Canelo Alvarez with left hand

By Dan Ambrose: Caleb ‘Sweethands’ Plant posted a photo of him slapping Canelo Alvarez with a left hand to the face to prove to the doubters whether he’d landed on the Mexican star during Tuesday’s press conference brawl.

WBA/WBC/WBO super middleweight champion Canelo and IBF champion Plant were meeting for their initial press conference last Tuesday in Los Angeles to begin building interest in their November 6th fight for the undisputed 168-lb championship.

The two will be squaring off on Showtime pay-per-view at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas.

Many of the fans, promoter Eddie Hearn included, believe that Canelo expertly dodged Plant’s short left hook slap and then countered him with a right-hand punch.

The photo Plant posted showed the truth. Canelo got hit cleanly with a slap to the face, and the reason he was able to counter with a punch was that he was hit with an open hand.

In watching it in real-time, it was obvious that IBF super middleweight champion Plant (21-0, 12 KOs) landed on the former four-division world champion Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KOs) because you could hear the impact of the shot on the face of the superstar.

Plant explains the REAL reason Canelo got mad

“You’ll never hear me talk about someone’s mother, kids, or wife. When men go off to war they leave the women and children at home,” said @SweetHandsPlant on Twitter in reaction to Canelo saying that he got physical with Plant because he called him a “Mother f****” during Tuesday’s press conference.

“No way y’all believe that s***. The truth is he’s mad he’s got someone in front of him who isn’t scared of him and isn’t just here to pick up a check and his ego can’t handle it,” said Plant.

It’s obvious that Canelo was angry at Plant because he was showing so much self-confidence during the press conference, and taking over the show with his charisma and his excellent trash-talking skills.

The reality is, Canelo has never come up against a fighter with the verbal skills of Plant in trash-talking, and it had the Mexican star boiling over with anger.

You could see the anger early on during the press conference when Plant was giving Canelo a piece of his mind, saying he’s a “drug cheat”, and tearing into his hefty trainer Eddy Reynoso.

Canelo says he was upset at being called a “mother f****” by Plant, but that’s not what ‘Sweethands’ believes. He thinks Canelo couldn’t handle his insults, which were hitting him where it hurt.

Plant’s manager says his cut is minor

“Caleb Plant’s manager, Luis DeCubas Jr., tells ESPN that Plant’s cut is minor and he’s sparring Thursday. “No punches landed in the scuffle; Caleb’s glasses scratched his face which caused a slight scratch. No stitches, no butterflies, no nothing. … He’s good to go,” said @MikeCoppinger.

It’s good that Plant wasn’t cut bad enough to require stitches because that would have led to the Canelo fight being postponed.
