Two people have been arrested for drug and other charges following a shoplifting call at a Valdosta Walmart Monday afternoon.
Valdosta police allege that that drugs were found on 29-year-old Anthony K. Benjamin and 50-year-old Jan M. Smith while being searched.
Investigators say that Smith had a used syringe and pill bottle with a schedule III substance that resulted in two charges: felony possession of a Schedule III substance and a misdemeanor possession of drug related objects.
Benjamin had multiple syringes and a small plastic bag with a Schedule II substance leading to a felony possession of a Schedule II substance charge and misdemeanor possession of drug related objects.
Though the drug charge wasn't the only one brought against Benjamin allegedly shoved an officer down according to officers, leading to a felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer charge. He also was tied to the initial call with a misdemeanor shoplifting charge.
“Officers never know what will transpire when responding to a call. This officer did a great job handling the adversity, getting the stolen merchandise back, locating the narcotics, and making the arrest," said Captain Scottie Johns.
