Sturgis school board approves measures at board meeting

Sturgis Public Schools Board of Education approved three measures at its meeting Monday.

  • Board members approved a shared-services pay scale that matches increases approved previously for teachers and other groups. In June, the district put forth a guaranteed 1.25 percent increase to wages and salaries. That amount could increase up to 3 percent based on student enrollment for the 2021-22 academic year. Not including shared services at that time was an oversight,  superintendent Art Ebert said.
  • The board OK'd a bid from McGraw Construction for the high school marching band tower. Base bid was $57,700, with an additional $8,750 added for composite decking, said Ray Sterling, director of finance. The project should be complete sometime this fall. McGraw already has an onsite supervisor as the company is completing other projects with Sturgis Public Schools.
  • The board approved a bid from Bridges Audio-Visual for interactive whiteboards/projectors for grades 3-12. The bid came in at $465,000 for purchase and installation.

Also on Monday, Trojan Heroes were honored: Alondra Caballero, Heather George and Audrey Green.
