Bob Saget talks Norm Macdonald, 'Full House' and upcoming Raleigh show
Comedian Bob Saget will never be able to escape his connection to 1990s pop culture nostalgia. And he doesn't want to.
Posted — Updated"I'm still a work in progress, but I'm really enjoying my journey of people telling me they grew up watching me," Saget said Tuesday in a phone interview from New York.
Saget accepts that, for many, he will always be "Full House" dad Danny Tanner or the original host of "America's Funniest Videos." The wholesome image is often juxtaposed with Saget's R-rated standup sets featuring F-bombs and more un-family-friendly material.
"I did one special in 2007 called 'That Ain't Right,' and that's where I was dropping F-bombs like people drinking shots of booze," Saget recalled. "I was playing a college – I was playing NYU – and a lot of the jokes I did, I would not do today."
Saget said his comedy has been leaning more toward PG-13 lately, but that does depend on what's going on in the world at the time of his show. Expect some more family-related comedy as well.
Expect some stories, observations and some music.
"It's actually, I feel like it's the best standup I've done," Saget said. "I've got new music that is very positive and funny, and I'm writing comedy songs."
"I recorded it. I was up all night for a few days," Saget said. "I woke up and kept procrastinating kept trying to form thoughts. And it was very emotional and I recorded a 37-minute thing."
"That was something that I had to do cathartic-wise and just, you know, get that out there," Saget said.
