Syracuse, N.Y. -- The Syracuse women’s lacrosse team, under the new direction of Kayla Treanor, will host a series of scrimmage games Saturday at the Lampe Athletics Complex and Skytop Field near Manley Field House.

Admission and parking will be free.

SU will take on three teams whose coaches have Orange roots. Syracuse plays Albany at 10 a.m. (Katie Rowan ‘09), Villanova at 11:15 (Jill DePetris Batcheller ‘07), and Army at 1:10 p.m. (Michelle Tumolo, ‘13). Those games will be played at Wohl Field.

Treanor, a four-time All-American at Syracuse who graduated in 2016, was named the Orange head coach after serving as an assistant for 2021 national champion Boston College. She still plays professionally and is a member of Team USA, which will play games this fall in anticipation of the 2022 World Championships.

Syracuse recently announced that Rowan will have her jersey retired; she is among three women (also basketball player Felisha Legette-Jack and rower Anna Goodale) to receive that honor after years of male-only inductees. Gary Gait, the former women’s lacrosse coach who took over the men’s program after the retirement of John Desko, will also have his jersey retired.

Tumolo, a longtime member of Team USA, announced recently that she would end her playing career for the national team.

The SU women’s lacrosse team lost 16-10 to BC in the national title game last May. It returns most of its key contributors from that team and is expected to again contend for a championship in the spring.

Two of its stars -- Emily Hawryschuk and Megan Carney -- whose seasons ended last spring with ACL injuries, should be back for 2022. An updated Syracuse roster, at this point, is not available.
