The Dallas Cowboys defense currently leads the league in turnovers (for real) and has four interceptions to their name through two games. Obviously the sample size is incredibly small, but the Cowboys defense as a whole looks better than we are used to. As true as this is there is always room for improvement and Stephen Jones loves to talk about how roster construction is a 24/7/365 business.

The Cowboys have been tinkering around with the idea of signing cornerback Holton Hill and on Wednesday finally took the plunge. He is now a member of the team’s practices quad.

Trevon Diggs is the only cornerback on the team that people feel 100% confident about. Second-round rookie Kelvin Joseph is on injured reserve and must remain there through at least this week, and the rest of the corner rotation has had it’s ups and downs. Hill will likely just be reserve depth but will try to make his mark by becoming a special teams guy if he can work his way onto the active roster.

One player who we know for certain is going to be helping the Cowboys defense as soon as this week is Randy Gregory. Mike McCarthy said earlier this week that he anticipated Gregory returning on Wednesday and that is indeed the case. He is on track to play on Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Cowboys were treated to a great performance at defensive end from rookie Micah Parsons last week, but having Gregory back will go a long way toward mitigating the loss of DeMarcus Lawrence long-term.
