Matthew West & Cory Asbury Being Honored at 2021 ASCAP Christian Music Awards

Matthew West, Cory Asbury, Capitol CMG Publishing, and more will be honored at the 2021 ASCAP Christian Music Awards, which kick off on Sept. 22.

Matthew West, Cory Asbury and Capitol CMG Publishing will be recognized at the 2021 ASCAP Christian Music Awards. The two-day social media event begins Wednesday (Sept. 22). 

ASCAP named West songwriter of the year for the fourth time. West has writing credits on Jeremy Camp’s “Keep Me in the Moment,” which reached No. 1 on the Christian Airplay chart in July 2020, and Casting Crowns’ “Love Moved First” and “Start Right Here.” A five-time Grammy nominee, West has worked with such top artists as Rascal Flatts, Scotty McCreery, and Amy Grant.  

Asbury was awarded ASCAP Christian songwriter-artist of the year for the first time. He previously won song of the year for “Reckless Love” in 2019. This year, Asbury snags two of ASCAP’s most performed song awards for “The Father’s House” and “Sparrows.”

Tauren Wells and Jenn Johnson’s hit collab “Famous For (I Believe)” took the prize for song of the year. Co-written by ASCAP member Alexis Slifer and published by All Essential Music and Buddybabe Music, the track reached the top spot on Christian Airplay in January. Slifer performed the song on ASCAP’s social platforms to celebrate the win.  

For the 19th consecutive year, Capitol CMG Publishing wins ASCAP publisher of the year for repping some of ASCAP’s most performed songs, such as “Peace Be Still” and “Still Rolling Stones.”
