The two-row Honda Passport SUV is getting a mid-generation upgrade that includes new rugged features as it makes its way to market in the company's first TrailSport variant.
Honda will sell the Passport in EX-L, Elite, and TrailSport trim levels.
Changes to the Passport for 2022 start with inspiration from the revised 2021 Honda Ridgeline. Like the truck, the Passport gets more rugged exterior styling. This design pushes the SUV's A-pillars forward and gives it new front and rear styling completed with a squared off nose and upright grille design unlike any other Honda SUV model.
New front fenders, front and rear bumper, tow hitch cover and exhaust finishers give the model a beefier presence. LED headlights are standard.
Each Passport rides on either 18- or 20-inch alloy wheels. Passport EX-L and Elite get the 20s while the TrailSport rides on 18s.
Honda Performance Development has created a HPD Package for Passport that gives the model a unique grille treatment, black fender flares, unique wheels and HPD graphics on the rear corner panel.
The 2022 Passport will continue to be powered by Honda's tried and true 3.5-liter V6 engine, which produces 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Passport Elite and TrailSport models get torque vectoring all-wheel drive as standard. It's available on Passport EX-L.
Four drive modes are available for drivers to choose from: Sand, Snow, Mud, and Paved Roads.
Passport continues to have 8.1 inches of ground clearance and the ability to tow up to 5,000 pounds.
The five-seater keeps its interior mostly the same from its 2021 version. Passport EX-L grades now have contrast stitching on their perforated leather seats.
All models have a new gray instrument cluster illumination with white gauge needles.
An 8.0-inch infotainment touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, keyless entry, and push-button start are standard.
The Passport has a class-leading 50.5 cubic feet of cargo space including 2.5 cubic feet of space below the floor of the rear cargo area. A power liftgate is standard on all Passport models. Passport Elite owners can access the space handsfree.
Every Passport comes with the Honda Sensing suite of driver assist and safety features. This includes new rear seat and seatbelt reminder tech.
2022 Honda Passport TrailSport
The Passport Transport is differentiated from the traditional Passport with different looks and equipment. The exterior gets a unique grille treatment and aggressive front and rear bumpers with silver skid garnish designs. There's orange TrailSport badging on the grille and tailgate that accompany gloss black versions of the traditional Passport badging.
Passport TrailSport wears unique 18-inch wheels with Pewter highlights wrapped in 245/60R18 tires. Honda has increased the track on the model by 10 mm.
The most trail-rugged SUV Honda has produced in modern times features an independent front and rear suspension and torque-vectoring all-wheel drive to help the model on the trail.
Honda has also given the model a heated windshield wiper parking area.
TrailSport models get orange contrast stitching on the steering wheel, door panels and seats. The TrailSport logo is embroidered on the front head rests and molded into the all-season rubber floor mats.
The instrument panel gets a unique black chrome gauge surround while footwells, door handle pockets, door trays, cup holders and the overhead console sport exclusive ambient lighting.
Honda promises to continue to improve the model's off road worthiness in the model years to come.
