Two HHS seniors named National Merit semifinalists

Hopkinsville High School seniors Grasen Givens and William Knight have been named 2022 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists.

Knight and Givens are alumni of the 2021 Kentucky Governor’s Scholarship Program and are among the less than 1 percent of high school students who earned the National Merit semi-finalist distinction.

A news release from the school system says Givens is the daughter of Calvin and Heather Givens and is a member of Kentucky Youth Assembly, Key Club, HHS Student Council representative, and the Christian County Public Schools Superintendent’s Advisory Board. She is a member of the Lady Tiger soccer and tennis teams.

Kinght is the son of Mickey and Penny Knight and he is the captain of the Tiger soccer team. He is a scholar in the Engineering Pathway at Gateway Academy to Innovation and Technology, serves as the captain of the VEX Robotics team 8349K, is President of the International Robotics Honor Society, Vice President of SkillsUSA, andGateway Academy Ambassador.

He is also an engineering intern at Hopkinsville Electric System and attends Hopkinsville Community College part-time.
