JACKSON, MI – Peanut and Twister are just two of the many animals at Cascades Humane Society that are looking for loving forever homes.

Peanut is not what you would expect when picturing a dog with his name. Instead of a small, “peanut-sized” dog, this Peanut is a large, black Labrador retriever mix.

Peanut is a handsome guy with a beautiful silky coat. He’s very treat-motivated and you could really use this to your advantage if you wanted to train him further. He does seem to know sit already.

Besides loving treats, Peanut is affectionate and a great mix between having some energy (to get to those treats) and being a calm guy. He is 7 years old and so far seems like he would do well in a home with other pets and kids.

A meet and greet, if you have a dog currently in your home, is necessary just to make sure it will be a good long-term friendship. Proof of rabies vaccination for your dog is required.

Twister is a stunning cat. Her tan-colored fur is offset by beautiful darker brown marble markings. She is petite and is only 1½ years old. She is a sweet girl who seems to really enjoy getting attention.

Twister will love playing with her new owner, or just curling up on the couch and being a cuddle-bug. While very accustomed to her space at CHS, she seems to need more time to warm up to our cat visiting room, which can be scary to some cats.

Give Twister time and she will show you the personality that CHS sees every day. Twister is up to date on her vaccines, has been spayed and microchipped and has tested negative for Felv/FIV.

Cascades Humane Society, 1515 Carmen Drive, is open to the public from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. All visitors are being asked to wear face masks to comply with state orders regarding COVID-19.

All dogs and cats at Cascades Humane Society have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and given parasite protection prior to adoption. Those who adopt pets also receive a free wellness checkup from any of 24 area veterinarians.

Dog owners wishing to adopt another dog are required to do a meet and greet with their dog and the dog they’re choosing to adopt.

CHS also has added services to its Spay and Neuter Assistance Program. The service, available during scheduled spay or neuter surgeries, includes vaccines, heartworm testing for dogs, FIV and FeLV testing for cats and dental procedures.

CHS also has a Pet Food Pantry to help families going through financial hardship. CHS accepts cat or dog food donations, as long as the food is in its original packaging. Donors can drop off food by the pole barn behind the facility. The Pet Food Pantry is open from noon to 2 p.m. on the first Saturday of the month.

Those considering adopting Peanut, Twister or another pet can apply to do so here. For more information, call 517-787-7387.
