The $431 million Mega Millions jackpot for Tuesday’s lottery drawing was won by a single ticket sold in New York City that matched all the winning numbers last night.
The jackpot is 26th largest prize in U.S. lottery history. The winning ticket was bought at Pronto Pizza on West 48th Street in Manhattan, according to New York Lottery officials.
Tuesday’s winning numbers were: 36, 41, 45, 51 and 56. The Mega Ball drawn was 13 with a Megaplier of 3X.
The cash option is worth $314.4 million.
There was also a second-prize, $1 million tickets purchased in Connecticut. It matched five numbers but not the Mega Ball.
Before Tuesday, 30 twice-weekly drawings had been held without a top-prize winner.
No one had won the top prize since someone who bought a ticket in Crestwood, Illinois won a $55 million jackpot on June 8.
Friday’s jackpot resets to $20 million with a cash option of $14.5 million.
The Powerball jackpot for Wednesday’s drawing is worth an estimated $490 million with a cash option of $355.1 million.
The odds of buying a jackpot-winning Mega Millions ticket that matches all five numbers and the Mega Ball are 302,575,350 to 1. A $2 ticket gives a player a 1 in 12,607,306 chance of matching five numbers but not the Mega Ball and winning a second-prize of at least $1 million. The odds are 931,001 to 1 of purchasing a $10,000 third-prize ticket matching four numbers and the Mega Ball.
The game is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
