CANTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A 19-year-old was killed in a hit-and-run early Wednesday in front of a grocery store in Washington County, police said.

Justin Gilbert was hit by a car about 4 a.m. on West Chestnut Street in Canton Township, just outside of the Foodland’s entrance, officials said. State police are investigating the crash and are trying to determine if Gilbert was walking in the road or crossing the road when he was hit.

Police said the car that hit Gilbert took off, but the driver eventually turned herself in to police several hours later. The driver was identified as Jessica Vanderlee, 40, of Washington. She was charged with accidents involving death and failure to stop and render aid.

West Chestnut Street was closed while police investigated. The street reopened about 7 a.m.

She was arraigned Wednesday and held in the Washington county Jail on $250,000 bail.
