GOP Senators Vent to Interior Nominee Over Oil Leasing Review

Senate Republicans on Tuesday accused the Interior Department of hiding behind bureaucratic process to stall oil and gas leasing and permitting on federal lands and avoid making public a review on the future of the federal leasing program.

But focusing on a thorough process—including environmental reviews and tribal consultation—are more important than reporting to the public as promised about the status of federal oil and gas leasing, assistant Interior secretary nominee Laura Daniel-Davis told the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee during her confirmation hearing.
