Man shot and killed at point blank range in South Philadelphia: Police
A woman was struck in the leg a block from the shooting scene.
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A gunman murdered a man at point blank range in South Philadelphia, police say.
A second victim was hit by the gunfire, a whole block away.
It happened just after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 2100 block of Marston Terrace.
Most of the people in the neighborhood where the shooting happened did not want to talk on camera, but tell Action News they heard the gunshots.
"First District police responded to several 911 calls, reports of gunshots and a shooting," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.
When they arrived, police say they found the victim, 27-year-old Ishmael Goodwin, who lives on the block.
"One male was lying in the parking lot, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his face, his neck, his chest and torso. He was bleeding heavily, he was unresponsive," said Small.
Police say Goodwin was shot at least 10 times at point blank range.
"Police picked him and rushed him to (Penn Presbyterian Medical Center). That male was pronounced dead at 11:43 p.m.," said Small.
Investigators say at the hospital they recovered a gun from Goodwin's waistband, but the weapon was never fired.
The second victim, a 57-year-old woman who was a block away from the shooting scene, was struck in the leg by a stray bullet.
She is in stable condition at the hospital.
Detectives are looking to see if surveillance cameras captured video of the shooter.
The investigation is active and ongoing with Homicide Detective Division.
