Iowa City Police say a man entered the back of a squad car involved in a separate incident and demanded to be taken home.
According to arrest records, 23-year-old Ryan Wyant of Westgate Street “drunkenly stumbled” up to the back of the patrol car while an officer was issuing a citation on the 200 block of West Burlington Street just after 1am Sunday. He then entered the back of the car and demanded to be taken home.
It’s unclear if Wyant believed the car was a taxi or rideshare vehicle, although police say the emergency lights were activated at the time.
Wyant allegedly showed signs of intoxication and registered a blood alcohol level of .220%. He was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication. Online records show he pleaded guilty on Monday and was fined $105.
