CLEVELAND, Ohio — The beloved former leader of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland has died at the age of 88.
Pilla, who was bishop of the Diocese of Cleveland from 1981 until his retirement in 2006, helped start a national dialogue on the role of the church in the city and was one of the most beloved figures in the Cleveland area. He was a native of Cleveland and was content to serve in the city. In other news, outrage over congressional maps released by a redistricting commission has some looking for ways to remove the commission’s members from office. And in coronavirus news, Cuyahoga County has the second-highest cumulative number of pediatric COVID-19 cases among Ohio’s counties.
