Field Hockey Looks to Get First Win of the Year This Week

Head Coach Brittney Randolph probably did not expect it to be this long to get her first win as a collegiate head coach, however that will not stop her or the Mercyhurst field hockey team from giving it everything they got for the remainder of the year. After falling to a pair of tough opponents last weekend including nationally ranked Stonehill College, Mercyhurst will look to regroup and focus on the upcoming games this week.

Although the record shows 0-6, Mercyhurst has not played like a team with that record.

The Lakers have been close in three out of the six contests they have logged this year. In game number one, the Lakers took Queens College into double overtime, however they conceded a goal with just minutes before going to a shootout.

The following contest against Mansfield University saw the Lakers tie it up 3-3 with five minutes remaining only to have Mansfield score the eventual game winning goal three minutes later.

Mercyhurst's other close contest came against Lindenwood University, in that one Mercyhurst trailed 2-0 in the final minutes. The Lakers scored one late however time just ran out resulting in another one goal loss.

Now, the Lakers will travel to Indiana University of PA on Wednesday to battle with the Crimson Hawks.

The Lakers will play under the lights at IUP with the game scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.  Then Mercyhurst will welcome East Stroudsburg University to Saxton Stadium on Sunday at noon for game number two of the week.
