A new series, putting those described as the Black elite in the forefront, is coming to FOX this week.
“Our Kind of People” premieres Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT). You can also watch it on FuboTV (7-day free trial) or Hulu + Live TV (free trial).
Inspired by the Lawrence Otis Graham book “Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class,” the series takes place in the aspirational world of Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard, a historical stronghold where rich and powerful Black people have come to play for more than 50 years. The series, according to the official description, is a “soapy, thrilling exploration of race and class in America and an unapologetic celebration of Black resilience and achievement.”
The cast includes Morris Chestnut, Yaya DaCosta, Joe Morton, Alana Bright, Kyle Bary, Nadine Ellis, Rhyon Nicole Brown and Debbi Morgan. Lance Gross and Raven Goodwin have signed on for smaller roles in the show.
Karin Gist, former producer of “Girlfriends,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Revenge,” is the creative mind behind this new series.
