The San Francisco Giants hit the road today to take on the San Diego Padres. And if it feels like they just played the Padres, well, get used to that feeling. After this three game series, they’ll close out the regular season against them too.

The Padres had been pushing for a Wild Card spot, but have fallen off in the last week, now sitting three and a half games back behind the St. Louis Cardinals. The Giants hope to put the nail in the coffin of the Padres playoff dreams this week.

Pitching tonight for the Giants is Kevin Gausman, who enters tonight’s game with a 2.78 ERA, 2.88 FIP, with 208 strikeouts to 49 walks in 175 innings pitched. Gausman’s last start was last Thursday, also against the Padres, in which he allowed eight hits, four runs and one walk, striking out seven in five innings. However, the Padres will want to be wary of his bat tonight, as his last game was technically Friday night’s, in which he hit in the winning run with a walk-off sac fly. And yes, I will be using pictures of this for every game he starts from now on. No, I will not be taking questions at this time.

Taking the mound for the Padres will be Joe Musgrove, who enters tonight’s game with a 2.99 ERA, 3.69 FIP with 184 strikeouts to 48 walks in 165 innings pitched. Musgrove’s last start was last Wednesday, also against the Giants, in which he allowed five hits, three runs, and three walks, striking out four and leading the Padres to a 9-6 victory.
