Republicans in Oregon are upset after the Oregon Senate passed a plan by democrats for redistricting on Monday.
Redistricting is done once a decade, and with Oregon getting a sixth congressional district, the two sides have different ideas on how the districts should look.
House Speaker Tina Kotek, D-Portland, made a deal with Republicans earlier this year to form a bi-partisan committee in charge of creating the new map.
Kotek canceled the deal this week, giving Democrats the advantage.
It has Republicans, including congressional hopeful Alek Skarlatos, accusing democrats of gerrymandering.
"It doesn't make geographical sense," Skarlatos told us. "It doesn't make sense with keeping communities of common interest together. It's obviously gerrymandered to help one party."
Skarlatos says the new map allows five safe democrat districts and one safe republican district.
The bill is in the House, which has adjourned until September 25 due to a COVID case.
If a map doesn’t get approval by September 27, the decision on Congressional seats will be made by a panel of judges appointed by the state Supreme Court. The state House and Senate districts will fall to the Oregon Secretary of State, who is a Democrat.
