An Albany woman is speaking out about the horror of finding her stepdaughters being sexually abused by an intruder in her home.
Police tell us the search continues for the suspect.
We spoke with Albany police - and now the family, who was willing to talk to us Tuesday.
We are protecting their identities in this story.
We spoke with the biological mother, stepmother and aunt of the children, and they're all still shaking.
They told us the suspect had been around in their apartment complex prior to this incident, peeping through windows.
It's a parent's worst nightmare - coming home to find an intruder harming your children. And it was a reality for a stepmother in Albany.
Police say the assault happened on SE Jackson Street around 4 a.m. Monday.
That's when the stepmother discovered the door of her apartment was open.
Her husband was asleep in their room, but she heard noises coming from the children's room.
"I heard my girls making noises, kind of like crying, play noises and stuff," the stepmother told us.
After she found the man assaulting them, he ran past her, shoving her out of the way.
"And I didn't say anything to him, because I was scared myself."
He escaped and police were called. While the investigation continues to find the suspect, the stepmother and her family don't want to stick around.
They say they want to move.
The children's biological mother, who was in Lebanon at the time, agrees and has advice for those in the area at night.
"Definitely keep your doors locked, windows locked, blinds closed. Or, if you have the pull up blinds, keep those closed, too (the curtains)."
She says the girls are a little shaken up, but are doing well. They will be receiving counseling soon.
The mother of the children tells us police are keeping a close eye on the apartment complex, especially at night.
