Police: Husband shot, killed estranged wife outside Pocola apartment complex

Police say the woman was shot just after exiting her son's apartment next door. She had filed for a restraining order against her husband in May.

POCOLA, Okla. — The Police Police Department says a homicide investigation is underway at an apartment complex off Highway 112 after two people were found dead.

According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), LeFlore County dispatch was called about two gunshot victims around 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21.

When police arrived, they found 66-year-old Ella Moore just inside her son’s apartment and 71-year-old Billy Moore just outside the apartment; both had gunshot wounds, OSBI reports.

Based on the investigation into the incident, police say Ella was at her son's apartment and left to go back to her apartment next door. After she left, her son told police he heard loud pops and screams. He retrieved his gun and when he came to the front of the apartment, he found his mother shot and lying just inside the door. The son then told police he saw Billy reaching for a weapon and he shot him.

Ella's son told police he performed CPR on her until paramedics arrived.

Both Ella and Billy were pronounced dead at the scene.

OSBI says no arrests have been made in the case.

Ella was estranged from her husband and had received a protective order against him just months ago, OSBI says.

Once the investigation is complete by OSBI, the case will be forwarded to the LeFlore County District Attorney's office for review.
