PBSO said that for "unknown reasons," Davis, 78, was driving an Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV northbound in Lyons' southbound lanes just before 6 p.m. Sept. 8.

The SUV crashed head-on into a southbound 2017 Nissan Sentra, which then struck a southbound 2017 Volkswagen Passat, according to the crash report.

The driver of the Sentra also sustained serious injuries and received treatment at Delray. The Passat driver received treatment for minor injuries at Bethesda Hospital West, PBSO said.

The crash report did not indicate whether the Sentra or Passat drivers were facing any charges.

It also did not say how fast any of the vehicles was traveling at the time of the crash.
