GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Elderly shoppers are being targeted by criminals and Grand Island Police said they need the public’s help to stop them.

GIPD said the criminals will work in a pair and are usually a male and female.

One of the criminals will ask the elderly shopper a question like “Is this a good product to buy” or they will pick up an item and ask “Did you drop this” and while the shopper is distracted the other criminal will steal a wallet out of the purse that is sitting in the shopping cart.

Police said the criminal will immediately go to another store and charge as much stuff as they can to the debit and credit cards they just took.

The suspects have not been identified and could possibly be traveling though Grand Island.

GIPD said to be cautious and aware while shopping. Do not get distracted and become a victim to this preventable crime.
