DCCC launches Spanish-language platform to battle GOP ‘misinformation’

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is launching a Spanish-language digital platform to combat “misinformation” less than one year after then-President Donald Trump and down-ballot Republicans made significant gains with Hispanic voters.

“Juntos,” and its English-language version, “Together,” are designed to combat the Republicans’ efforts to woo Hispanic voters ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.

It features information and political messaging on the coronavirus vaccine and President Joe Biden’s agenda and is a response to what some Democrats believe was a superior Republican campaign to attract Hispanic support in 2020 across the country — a campaign that Democrats claim involved a heavy dose of “misinformation.”

The DCCC is describing “Juntos” as “a first of its kind digital information hub offering Spanish-speaking voters dozens of new digital assets to highlight Democratic achievements online and combat dangerous right-wing disinformation.”

In a press release, the House Democratic arm said that while “extremist right-wing media” and “even House Republicans” are pushing “dangerous disinformation to voters, the DCCC is working to ensure more Americans have the necessary tools to counter the GOP’s attempts to mislead voters across social media platforms well before they head to the ballot box next November.”

Last November, Biden won the vast majority of Hispanic votes but garnered less of this cohort’s support than Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton did in 2016. Meanwhile, Trump saw his numbers with Hispanics increase — and not just in Florida.

In some heavily Hispanic counties in Texas along the border with Mexico, the former president became the first Republican finish on top in White House balloting in decades.
