Alcoholism: Michelle Heaton has revealed how doctors thought she might not make it when she first went to rehab for alcohol addiction

Reliving the moment she entered the facility, she said: 'The day I went into rehab, the consultant rang my husband and told him he didn't know if I was going to make it.

'My liver was failing. I'm four months sober now and I could never even imagine I'd be four days sober.

'I can go to bed sober and clean, wake up sober and clean. That's another day. The great thing about fellowship and meetings is that it's free. The only requirement to attend AA is the want to give up your addictions.'

Tough: The singer's husband Hugh Hanley went on to talk about how Michelle's alcoholism affected life at home with their two children; Faith, nine, and Aaron, seven

Michelle then went into the rehab centre and spoke with one of her doctors. When asked how bad she first was when she first started the treatment programme, the doctor replied: 'You'd always been a bit of a drinker and that was worse after your terrible time with your hysterectomy in 2014.

'Wine, Prosecco, vodka, brandy and then you started using to cope.

'This time last year you were in a terrible state physically, I don't know how you were still alive, quite frankly.

Health scare: 'This time last year you were in a terrible state physically, I don't know how you were still alive, quite frankly', her doctor said

'Your liver function test was terrible, you were heading towards cirrhosis. One on the enzymes we measured should be about 250, yours was 2,053.

'Then you said mentally you were feeling guilty, ashamed, depressed. That you're having blackouts.'

Michelle said she still has 'no recollection' of the blackouts. She said: 'It really is painful to think how many times I would have put myself and other people into danger.'

The singer's husband Hugh Hanley went on to talk about how Michelle's alcoholism affected life at home with their two children; Faith, nine, and Aaron, seven.

'For three years she wasn't part of our lives. The addiction robbed us of my wife and also robbed the kids of her mum.

Shocking: In April, Michelle was given just days to live when she entered a rehab facility for drink and drug addiction and the star previously shared a shocking picture taken in the depths of her alcohol addiction

'The nicest thing is the kids having her back in their lives.

'For me as a husband, it's nice to have my partner back.'

Earlier this month, Michelle celebrate 20 weeks of sobriety and posted a snap from before she went into rehab in which she had puffy and bloodshot eyes.

She captioned the image: 'This picture is not to shock, it WAS my reality! 20 weeks ago this was me - Ruined - the second is me today - Saved

Michelle previously revealed she did not go for a day without alcohol for three years before she checked into rehab in April.

Confessing that getting herself to rehab was the hardest part of her journey during an appearance on Loose Women, Michelle said: 'It's the first step and its the hardest to admit you have a problem and that you're powerless to drugs and alcohol.

She explained it wasn't a 'specific event' that caused her admission into rehab, but she ended up 'locked away by herself, lying and manipulating situations'.

Michelle revealed: 'I became very very ill, it was a five year process. About three years it got a bit of a hold on me, I was happy in my addiction.'

'Sometimes it's difficult to say you have an addiction because at times it feels fun, that's the reality of it, it [alcohol] was my friend in need.

'Any feeling, sad, happy, the sun's shining, a party - any excuse. It got a hold of me really badly about a year and a half ago.'

'My husband and friends tried an intervention to get me to rehab.'  Michelle admitted that her husband Hugh has been her 'rock'.
