Dewey High's softball team is making a solid bid so far for a season of destiny.

With two lopsided victories Friday and another on Saturday, the Lady Doggers improved to a sizzling 25-1 record — perhaps the best-ever start through 26 games for the illustrious program.

Bartlesville High recorded a successful weekend at the Del City tourney and Copan achieved a memorable milestone Friday.

Following are summaries of area weekend results:

Dewey

Dewey thumped Owasso, 9-2, and Chelsea, 7-1, in Oklahoma Union tourney play.

Senior center fielder Gabby Higbee smashed a double against Owasso to continue her incredible extra-base hit assault this season.

Through 25 games, Higbee has pounded 28 extra base hits — 16 doubles, four triples and eight homers. She has delivered at least one extra-base missile in 19 of Dewey's 26 games, and has doubled at least once in 15 games.

Also swinging a big bat against Owasso was Kaleena Downing, who walloped two doubles and drove in three runs. Maycee Smith and Briley Davis each recorded two RBI's. Smith also stole three bases.

Reagan White earned the pitching win in 2.1 innings of work; Davis finished up the final two-thirds of a frame in the three-inning game.

In the win against Chelsea, Downing socked a two-run homer and finished with four RBI's. Davis added three RBI's.

Davis also pitched the distance (three innings) and struck out seven.

Dewey — which is coached by Niki Keck — finished off the weekend by crushing Pawhuska, 6-0, in the championship game of the tourney.

Savana Moll and Davis each doubled and singled and drove in a run to lead the Dewey offensive attack.

Katie Wright drove in another run.

Higbee and Smith stole two bases apiece, while Addison Dugger and Moll each recorded one theft.

Davis spun a complete-game (seven innings) two-hitter, with a jaw-dropping total of 13 strikeouts.

Bartlesville

The Lady Bruins opened up Del City tourney play with two wins Thursday. Reports on those games were slated to appear in the weekend edition.

On Friday, Norman North edged Bartlesville, 2-1. But, the Lady Bruins snapped back to knock off tourney host Del City, 5-1, on Saturday.

Bartlesville is now 16-11 on the season — surpassing last seasons win total of 15.

Bartlesville also owns a 7-6 mark in district games. Next up, Bartlesville plays host Tuesday to Nowata for a 5:30 p.m. game.

The Lady Bruins are guaranteed no worse than a .500 mark for the regular season.

 Copan

Less than six weeks ago, new Copan High softball head coach Randy Davis led an unknown commodity — loads of inexperience, a wealth of unproven pitching and little momentum of success from the previous few campaigns — into the season wars.

But, 39 days into the schedule, the Lady Hornets proved they're no longer the weak sister on the block.

Led by a blistering hitting attack, Copan knocked off Bluejacket twice, 16-1 and 14-5, on Friday, to earn the mantle as the Super Six Conference champion.

In the first game — a semifinal — Kennedy Watson and Elizabeth Odum both hammered four hits, followed by Abbey Davis and Faith Weatherspoon with three apiece, to energize the offense.

Pitcher Kamron Van allowed only three hits.

At stake in the second meeting Friday was the conference title.

Rylee Vanschuyver ripped a walk-off double — to drive home Weatherspoon and Gentry O'Rourke.

Copan (10-8) recorded 12 hits spread among seven different batters.

O'Rourke brought home the conference tourney MVP Award; Weatherspoon and Odum also were named to the All-Conference tourney team.
